About
Hey! I’m Lara.
My art and illustrations are a avenue to help me contemplate (and escape) how overstimulating it can be to navigate the unrelenting stimuli of the modern world as a creative producer and non-linear thinker.

The long(winded and slightly poetic) story:
For me, making art help me make sense of the uncertainty that comes with being someone who can hold the whole world in their head and feel ten thousand feeling all at once, but will never be able to comprehend the incessant optimization, efficiency and rigid structure that benefits the capitalist economy-driven society that we live in.
It gives me space to explore the cross-overs areas, the overlaps and the intersections of personhood that are usually untethered, unbalanced or overlooked. It makes living in the grey area a much brighter place.
You’ll find me constantly immersed in fictional places that simmer with the essences of the human psyche; diving between the layers of ancient folklore and mythologies, finding the warnings folded in with wondrous journeys. Wandering the halls of stories, chasing the light wonders and feasting on the dark realities. Reaching out to touch the spinning spools of dream thread of other like-minded creative people weaving tapestries of human connection and understanding.
The (much) shorter story:
I make art about feelings and living between worlds.
I like contemplating existence, dark whimsical shit and stories about people.
The historical stuff:
I graduated from WINTEC in Hamilton, NZ in 2019 with a Bachelors in Visual Arts working predominately in Graphic Design. Though it would be remiss of me not to mention that I spent half my tertiary education studying Fine Art at Massey University in Wellington, as it strongly shaped my abilities in conceptual thinking and artistic integrity.
I owe the world to my grandma who, as incredible painter and craftsperson- lent her voice to some very important conversations and who vouched for my art career in the moments when it mattered the most.
And to my parents who supported their fast-brained, hyper-interested, imaginative daughter as she bulldozed her way through every hobby, sport and activity under the sun. As well as (despite some hesitations), follow her yearning artistic heart into the beyond to become the independent creative brained human being that I am to this day.
I currently reside in Sydney Australia, living my intended life as a sun-lizard that feeds alcohol to grown adults (I work part time in a cocktail bar). Occasionally I make art too.
